TOPEKA (January 10, 2018) – Kansas Secretary of State and candidate for Governor Kris Kobach issued the following statement on the budget proposal released today by the Colyer/Brownback Administration.
“The Colyer/Brownback plan is another big bill for hardworking, middle-class Kansas taxpayers.
This news is especially disappointing in light of legislative leadership recently commissioning an independent analysis of education funding levels. Instead of waiting on the results of this study, the Colyer/Brownback administration is writing a massive check that the state cannot afford.
Most discouraging of all is that the Colyer/Brownback administration fails to do anything to stop the endless cycle of taxpayer funded-litigation which places judges rather than teachers, parents, and their elected officials in charge of the success of our schools. We must focus on passing a constitutional amendment restoring the power to tax and spend to the legislative branch, and ensuring that unelected judges cannot close schools.”
